The river is raging and I lost two decoys to the water this weekend. My decoys are Texas rigged with 6oz weights and they floated down the river. Looking for a simple solution to stop loosing gear. Has anyone tried connecting all the loops on the Texas rig decoys with parachute cord and a stake? Any other good ideas to use when the river is so high?
I use a good 8 oz mushroom anchor, in fact it might be 12 oz. With one good anchor on a longer line (~6-8 ft) I daisy chain 2 or 3 decoys together, with the 2nd and 3rd decoy on a short line. The 2nd or 3rd decoys tend to "swim" around more since they aren't hooked to a weight. Since I only have one weight for every 2 or 3 decoys the whole bag doesn't weigh a ton, but I don't use a big spread anyway. It does take a bit more time to set up with the daisy chaining, but the only time I'm chasing decoys is if a log or big limb hits.
If you didn't want to re-rig all your TX rigging I guess some sort of staking system would be worth a shot.
Jrabq, thanks for sharing. That is a simple solution that will keep me from re-rigging everything.
