western suffolk/nassau county goose hunting

Postby duckduckgoose81 » Fri Feb 15, 2013 7:09 am

I would like to get another hunt or two in before calling it quits till november. I cant find any info on public land to hunt in this zone. Im not looking for hand outs to honey holes. Just looking for someone to point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance and if someone wouldnt mind me tagging along on their hunt that would be cool too.

If you have a boat, there is a public launch in Lido. You can hunt any marsh in that area as long as it isn't marked as a protected area. Anywhere from Long Beach to Point lookout will have spots you can hunt.

Good luck.

It's two totally different kind of hunting.
West get thick with resident geese that a lot of guys dial in on because they either sit against the bulkhead of a park of golf course and set their watch by the pass shooting coming and going.
Out east you will get huge numbers of migratory birds that trade between farms and fresh water. They will pass you by for days without a look, then you can't get rid of them the next day..

Could anybody give me a spot to go to where I can walk in? I talked to dec and town of hempstead and was told i cant walk into this tidal wetland area although there are a few ways to access it without trespassing. Please let me know, id like to get out this afternoon and next sunday.

They want to reduce the amount of geese in western long island area yet provide no way of access to hunters without boats. The wetlands i can access from the street Im told isnt allowed yet I can drive a boat to it and hunt on the marsh go figure. Please anyone who could pm me a spot Id greatly appreciate it.
