New boat

Postby sssurfertim » Sat Jul 20, 2013 6:02 am

Well ......new project boat. 18ft Chincoteague Garvey. Got the hull from a guy at work, who bought it from me a few years ago and stripped it but never did anything with. New floor will go in, and I am playing around with locations for the gas tank. I think I like where it is in the picture up in the bow. Have a 60 Bigfoot Merc tiller for the back of it. Now it just has to cool down Lower than 95 so I can work on it  .

Hovercraft?

Your mom's gotta be loving another boat in the yard....
Maybe hook it up with one of those bow-bonnet-bimmineys to keep the wind/rain off my neck when I'm sitting up there...

Not sure what you mean? I am not a fan of mercury at all but.....used the motor all season last year and it was very good, and my mechanic told me they are great motors. The Bigfoot has a larger lower unit for towing and commercial fishing. I really like it.

Floor is all cut out and coated in resin, made a mockup of the box I am putting down the center for the gas tank, battery, and storage. I was going to put the tank under the bow but I like this idea better. Going to glass a chase under the deck with PVC to run the gas line and wires to the stern. I will wired running lights and maybe some LED lights under the gunwales. I might even Awlgrip the inside of the boat, or gel coat. Working in the marine business is great when your rebuilding a boat!

My photos area upside down? They are right side up when I look at them. I would love a custom aluminum boat, not a johnboat though.

Deck is in, gaps around edges filled and sanded and glassed with a 4" strip of Biaxel cloth around the whole deck where it meets the hull. Time for a spool of matte and 2 gallons on resin when I get time in the next two weeks. Than I will build the storage box for the center which will house the fuel tank, battery, dry storage! And maybe a grab handle like they have on the mud boats. Epoxy barrier primer cote for the interior, with grey epoxy nonskid over that will be tough as nails. Hull will be flat olive green or grey haven't decided yet......and last but not least running lights, interior LED lights to light up the deck, Mount the motor...coming along good. Hope to have the boat done by end of September.

I bet you are taking the pics with your iPad upside down and even though the screen flips the image, it's posts upside down.
Who else sees it upside down?
It's right side up at work?

i had an 18ft i bought back in the 90's for a workboat from the factory ( 2 miles from my house in VA) hell of a boat...sold it to step up to 22 ft carolina for more room...in the end wished i kept her...

good luck with her hope you get her full of fish and duck blood for years to come
