Sept goose reg changes

Postby sssurfertim » Mon Aug 19, 2013 8:38 pm

15 birds, unplugged guns, and hunting til 1/2 hour past sunset. I was kind of laughing to my self because now guys are complaining that all the geese might get hunted to very low numbers which might kill the season in future years. I mean that is the goal of the season ..........right? Idk what you do with 15 anyway 3 to 5 is my cut off personally.

Here's the REGS, Slack. Looks like 15/day in the Central and Eastern LI zones, 8/day in the Western zone. Really doesn't make much sense! The 1/2 hour after sunset and the unplugged gun thing looks to be state wide for September Goose.

Unless I'm reading it wrong, those regs are for ALL September goose seasons.

On the link I posted earlier, under "Highlights for 2013-2014 it says
✓ September Canada Goose Seasons – bag limits are increased to 15 per day in most areas. Shooting hours are extended to ½ hour after sunset, and electronic calls and shotguns capable of holding more than 3 shells are also allowed during September, except on any Youth Hunt Days. These special measures are intended to increase hunter harvest of local‐nesting or “resident” Canada geese.

8 was enough...... three guys with 8 birds each is a lot of cleaning.....if you got a nice field that's holding 100 birds in the sept season and you do several hunts and hammer them silly( 15 birds each) with two buddies...you probably wont be getting quality hunts out of that area for a few years...its not like the resident get replenished with migrants staying behind much!! the pool of targets for our enjoyment( to make memorable hunts) is all resident birds...ie family groups... they will circle back and allow themselves to be decimated for 3-4 hunts and them all the dummies are gone...and you are left with smart birds...

for the guys that will only hunt two or three times...it might be great.... for the guy who goes two days a week.....he will hit diminishing returns fast at 15 bird limits.

of course all those guys with no access to those sept birds, will sit by and watch the slaughter ha ha ha

or hammer a roost    !!!!!!!

Routinely limit with the 8 bird limit up here by about 0830. Taken 60 and 55 on back to back days in the same field. September birds are pretty tame or dumb here.

I can/jerky almost all of the geese we shoot so any extra is fine with me.

Canned venison is awesome! Just falls apart like stewed beef.

I wouldn't mind learning how to can waterfowl.

You are the non douche.

I cut the breasts up into about 1" cubes. Pack a pint canning jar as tight as possible then put a chicken or beef bullion cube on top. Put lid on and pressure cook it for 75 minutes at 10 psi. Do not add any water. I highly suggest you try it!

You can use salt instead of the cube but i like making gravy with the broth.
