Missouri Snow Geese

Postby japeiler15 » Tue Feb 20, 2007 4:11 pm

Check out these bad boys. Scouting paid off but without a decoy spread good luck. We saw probably 20,000 or so birds. After trying our makeshift spread of about 110 we decided to sneak the birds. We jumpshot 25 snows and blues. These are the ten I kept to eat. The one I am holding is going on the wall. Anybody hunt snows in NY?[/img]http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i231/japeiler15/SnowGeese.jpg

I've tried chasing them a few springs, actually shot a pair of them once. It's difficult here with the March 10 closing date, most years the birds barely show up before the season closes. I don't even get too anxious anymore until I actually see some birds around.

yea the birds show up about the 11th of march here. Our spring season is nothing to get excited about. I shot a few near cayuga lake a couple years back, snuck the flock in the middle of the night and when shooting time came we let them have it. It was fun, but not really that fun.

I've heard that over by Lake Champlain there is some hunting for snows. This may be during their fall migration.
