Mute Swans

Postby Frank Lopez » Thu Feb 13, 2014 2:17 pm

By now, I'm sure you all heard about the DEC's plans to cull the mute swan population. Apparently, what was printed in the newspaper wasn't quite accurate. The state is currently studying the problem and apparently realizes some sort of thinning is necessary. The DEC has a Web Page where they have posted a draft of their proposed management plan. If you read the plan, one of the options is to open a hunting season on them. Also on that page they are soliciting comments. If anyone is interested, follow the above link, read the management plan and send in your comments before Feb 21.

I feel slightly sorry for a man who has never patterned his gun, who has no idea how far his chosen load will retain killing penetration. But I'm extremely sorry for the ducks he shoots at beyond the killing range of his gun and load - Bob Brister
