I grew up in Cooperstown. I live in Wyoming now, but may be heading east if I can get a job back there. I was back for the early goose season. That was fun. Any of you guys ever hunt Montezuma?

hey guys, i live in penfield (east rochester)...looking for someone from the rochester area to hunt with, i am new to the area and don't know of any public lands or private places around to hunt. I'm origionally from the Auburn area and have a few swamps and ponds to hunt there, but its hard to find the time to head home to hunt with work and all...

Carlschmarl,

I just took a job in Syracuse. I'll be moving back that way at the end of November. I don't know how much hunting season that will leave us with but I'm planning to explore. I hear there are a lot of ducks around Oneida Lake and the entire place is infested with geese

I'll get in touch with you when I am settled if you're interested.

-Matt

Oneida is in the Northeastern Zone, so it is open until Dec. 14. End of November through January is when the hunting really gets decent around here anyway.

Here is a link to the season dates.

CLUTCHfan,

where abouts in Onadaga County do you hunt? private or state lands? after two very unsuccessful and wet days of hunting beaver swamps and ponds in cayuga county we took canoes out into clay marsh and cicero swamp just to do some scouting and pass shooting but again we didnt see many birds.

Mostly public, but I'm sort of all over. I generally don't hunt Clay marsh because I don't have a dog, and if you knock one down in the reeds there, it can get really hairy going in on foot; ankle deep one second, chin deep and stuck the next. As far as birds, it gets better later in the season I think. I got a boat this year, so I've been hunting Oneida mostly, and Lakeview Marsh a little bit. We usually hunt week days so that we have most of these places to ourselves.

I haven't scouted cicero swamp yet, where did you guys put in?

Anyone hunt Kinney Swamp in Birdsall? Heard about it and with this rain we had, most every swamp has water in it.

Binghamton area here! Glad to find some local hunters to chat with! Didn't get out and do much hunting this season with a 1 year old. but turkey season and trout season is right around the corner! Had a chance to do some hunting along the Susquahanna River and had some local geese give us some action.
