Somebody was hunting it Sat. afternoon.

And then when I was packing up at Sunset (6:59 PM), and i got back to the ramp (7:15PM), someone started shooting (7:20). :fingerpt:

Then they picked up and left (no lights on their boat). :fingerpt:

Tucker is on to them.

Me neither, I hunted a little Sat AM but was on my way back from the movies in Morganton Sat PM at the end of LST.

Those are good guidelines for any forum. Some people start posting things on the web and seem to forget to not give away the keys to the castle in the process.

See more birds after sunset, and the competition really drops off. BTW, the running lights were working when we launched.

tarheel yankee, this brings up a good point. i'm not new to duckin, but new to this forum and think its important that everyone in the modern age knows about "geotagging".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geotagging

the reader's digest version is that taking pictures with your smart phones (no matter the angle) and posting them on the internet is like posting a sign saying "HERE I AM". dont kid yourselves, this technology is used all the time, mostly by people we call "lurkers", to collect a pile of information about things such as where we're shooting ducks, in and effort to make us do the leg work. paranoid? you be the judge, but if youve got an iphone or similar technology, every picture you take has the lat/long info on where you took it until you turn that function off. very applicable to the facebook generation of kids these days posting everything they see and do.

i cant say i completely understand everyone's paranoia about people stealing their amazing arkansas-style hunting spots here in nc, but i maybe i'm hunting underpressured areas. anytime the public is armed in the wild, i find it better to avoid confrontation knowing that i go home safe.

Dog Tired...yep I knew that as well and was going to mention that also...but..after the fact...nevertheless...whatever...I didn't. Glad you brought it up because it is a good point and some that may not be too techno savvy, may not realize that!

yeah, when you think about it, a landmark is one thing, but a lat/lon or mgrs of spot can be extremely definitive. i think this probably applies less to older duck hunters (without smart phones), and more to our younger crowd (duck hunting or otherwise) as the latter is typically the one posting things as they happen directly to facebook....telling all the crazies out there where they are and what theyre doing. its a crazy world out there, and its getting tougher to protect ourselves against "advancement"...some call it "change" or "progress"...i'm new here, is there a rule against talking religion and politics? :lol3:

Not that I know of, no rule against religion or politics, but I would limit it to those topics that pertain to waterfowl hunting or you might get a shotgun blast!!

$200.00 For gas, 22 days of scouting and only seeing 5 or less ducks, countless nights of staring at maps,
4 Holes in my new waders, new water pump in my boat, hearing my wife complain about me always being gone, 25 sausage biscuits from mcdonalds, stranded due to not reading tide charts, four days before the season i can finally say I will have no problem shooting my limit this Saturday. And for the quacks on here that are about to p.m me to ask where I found ducks I'll save you time and tell you they are in the water. Teal mallards widgeon woodys and geese. I guess as a new follower of this forum and reading all the posts i can see why y'all are so protective of your info, that being said I suppose that I could have been viewed as "trolling" for info a few days ago. My point would be that some of us don't always have bad intentions and could actually use a little help being pointed in the right direction even if that is a general knowledge website naming the public access lakes. The small town I'm from only had a few waterfowlers and we helped each other... Here's to a great season in a new place with a huntin buddy I aint met yet!!!
