Opening day doves

Postby TooTall » Sat Sep 02, 2006 4:33 pm

We hunted a pay to hunt field near Kinston today. We smacked em pretty good. My dad and I got our limits in about two hours. Maggie did pretty good. She was doin some breaking, but atleast now we know what to work on the next couple weeks. We should hunt the same place on Monday, and then we will be able to use the new MOJO dove we got

Enjoy!

Not bad at all. I hunted Stoney Creek and had my 12 right about 2 o'clock. I shot better than I usually do on the opener.and i'll be back there on monday with my sweet decoy rig.

We limited out at about 4ish. The birds got in there late, but when they did, we smacked em. I put the MOJO on about a six foot pole and had groups of five to seven doves lock up over it and land beside it. Later on one of the guys told us to take it down. Said the owner (forgot name) was worried people might take low shots over them. Completely understandable. Today was also the first time I shot better than my dad  I was done a good half our befor him. Maggie got pretty hot today and so my dad put her in the cab of the truck with the AC running for the last part of the hunt. All in all it was a very good weekend to be a dovehunter! We should be out there next Sat. so if your there and see us, introduce yourself.

Here's a pic with today's bag and Maggie.

Not bad TooTall. I figured you would get your limit like me. Yeah I had my 4 decoys on a pole 16ft up and then the mojo on the ground about 15 yrds away. the mojo does bring them down but I enjoy watchin them reall low even if I don't even shoulder my gun. I shure did have some in-yur-face shots today but its like shootin a rifle when there that close and im' shootin a full choke.
I'm planning on going to VA next weekend for a dove hunt and to chill with the HSC guys, but if I don't then i'll prob head back to stoners.

What school do u go to?

I hunted over at Feather Creek Farms in Stokes, it was a great hunt with a good group of people. I was glad to see the number of kids out there, all day long you would hear good shot daddy or way to go son. I limited out in about 2 hrs, but I could have been done much sooner if my shooting had been a little better. I am ready for some ducks and some cold weather.
