Got one, usually get at least two. First time I've gotten draw in January, all the other ones ended up being week of Thanksgiving or there about in years past.

Got a late January which I feel will be best. Seems I had better luck @ the end of season last year.

Well, picked up 3. One for Goose Creek and 2 for Butner. How does everyone feel about this new blind system they have set up at Goose Creek? Personally I think it sucks, there is plenty of room for everyone on the permits only now you have to stay in your blind and can't move around. Don't like this because the birds move according to the wind and also fearful the birds will become accustomed to those dam blinds. Starting to remind me how it was when I lived in MD for a while. Please chime in with your responses, would like to get this change back to the way it was before if all possible and would love some help from other hunters.

I believe Spring Creek is the only impoundment affected. Cambells and PP still have no blinds.

Yea, I think you are right, but seeing I don't have a big duck rig Spring is where I go. Still I don't care for the change much. Guess too many people were crying, but what else is new with the world today not just duck hunting.

Honestly if people would have a little more consideration for each other then the whining would be cut in half. Still you will have some that are never happy and would complain no matter what. It seems you always have 2 types of hunters. One type plans, scouts, prepares, and gets there and set up waiting for LST. The other stays out and pulls a drunk the night before and gets there right at LST and wants to set up 50 yards away from you. When the draws are as hard as they are to pull, that is the worst possible scenario and it seems to happen allot. At least thatway you don't have to worry about that. Sure you might get the crappy blind, but still you will shoot more ducks in that crappy blind than you would with a bunch of yahoo's sitting 50 yards away skybusting and hailing at everything they see.

A crappy blind is not really the issue. Put in for 5 draws all for the same blind, because I know where to go in that place; however, if the wind is in the wrong direction it will move the birds to the other side of the cell which is out of reach. Just like being to move to the side they are on. Haven't had to much of a problem since they started the draw system except once. A group of four idiots came in late and were sky busting, shooting at everything from blackbirds to egerts, can't fix stupid of course, just like having the option.

I wouldn't waste my time if the drive was more than 30 minutes away. You might get lucky and shoot a wood duck, merganser,or 2 but most likely that late in the season the place will be shot out and not holding any ducks. What more would you expect for $5?

I hate the blinds at Mattamuskeet too! Why can't I hunt where I want on the lake?

We got drawn for three of our options, applied for 4 game lands, so not too bad. Also got my swan permit again. 4 permits in the past six years, and second year in a row. A good buddy got Skeet for the last weekend of the season, so no complaints here!
