Pamlico point January 7

Postby Junior Duck Commander » Wed Jan 08, 2014 5:08 pm

hey everyone,

hope the season has been treating everyone well. Curiosity is killing me. I had a draw for pamlico point yesterday (Jan 7) and couldn't make it to the impoundment. If you hunted that day and if you dont mind shoot me a PM and let me know how you did. I had been looking forward to that hunt since we got the draw.

thanks

You probably miss nothing, I suspect it was locked up . I personally have not hunted there in 10 years due to the zoo atmosphere there, I never intend to hunt there again.

Why couldn't you make it to the impoundment?

Man that's a shame. It can get pretty rough out there, especially with that wind. Like Eastbound said, no duck is worth the risk. Hard decision to make too, when you get up that early with all that gear and drive there anticipating a good hunt. Take refuge in knowing that the outside of the impoundment was most likely like a civil war firing line and every duck that got within a half mile was shot at and flared away.

You made a wise decision where somebody else might have risked it and got in serious trouble. On monday I was out in some big water when that front came through, the gale blew up and it seemed like every duck in the sound wanted to be in my decoy spread. It was blowing over my back but there were 4 and 5 foot waves about 50 yards in front of my decoys and ducks came in like crazy flock after flock. All I could do was sit and watch the show because I wasn't about to go out and try to pick up birds in that mess. Always best to err on the side of caution.

thanks for the replies. Makes me feel a little better. if only the wind was a little lighter. Yeah we were definitely there early enough to get a prime spot but just couldn't make it out. Hope everyone finishes out the season strong
