Lots of good places in the sounds, rivers, creeks, and swamps in your area. Best place to start is www.ncwildlife.org and then get out and scout.

In the same boat, moving to the area. I gotta find a boat so I can get scouting but would you generally say that the best areas on on the coastal swamps /rivers or go more inland to freshwater? Never hunted a coast so not sure how to judge this

If you're moving to Jacksonville you don't want to go inland to look for birds. The coast is where it's at. If you're going to be elsewhere I would advise you to look around home first and then go to the coast for a few trips a year.

As a fellow Bama fan/native you are making us look bad. You're not going to get any help from anyone by saying "where are the ducks" "where are the best places/spots" You need to hop on the boat, kayak, bike, truck, feet ect and go scout... go look around and see where theres water and check on the states website for rules/regs.

If your on the coast, focus on the coast for the most variety of birds. Inland on the coast will be 80% wood ducks in the creeks/swamps/

From the pics & reports I saw from inland hunters this past season they were killing the crap out of all kinds of birds late in the season. All kinds of puddle ducks, divers and even some sea ducks killed 100+ miles inland from the coast. Those guys got a push of birds from the mid west that did not come to the coast.

As for SE NC there are no ducks, for the most part. Once the local woodies and the migrants pass through their next stop is the ACE basin of South Carolina and then to the Gulf Coast of Flordia. Those guys in Fla. have a pretty decent season every year while up here in NC we're looking at empty sky. We'll get a good push of birds around Thanksgiving in SE NC then it starts to slow down, especially if you only hunt puddle ducks. SE NC does not hold a lot of ducks late in the season, the birds always move on south.

If you want to kill ducks in this area, you got to burn some gas

None of these guys will tell you, so I will... High Rock. If your not hunting out there you are wasting your time.

Didn't you just post this same thing about Florida?
