Gackle North Dakota Area?

Postby nek9handler » Wed Aug 20, 2008 5:10 am

:help:

We are planning on staying and hunting in the Gackle area but not until the 17th of Nov.

How is it looking thier?

I realize most places will be froze but we are looking at doing field hunting mostly anyways.

Last year we found open water and good fields but were hunting up by Minot, and a week earlier.

Any oulook would help and I will be checking on everyone throughout the season.

I am from nebraska and the rest of the guys are coming up from arkansas.

Then in December I am heading down their for a timber shoot.

Any help is great

there is plenty of water around the gackle/medina area but there is alot of posted land around there but on the good side they usually let people duck hunt the posted is usually aimed torward deer/phesant hunters. so most anywhere you find birds you have to go knockin.

Thanx for the info.

Door knocking does not bother me we are coming up early the first day plan on being thier by noon at the latest.

We should be withing a couple of hours of gackle and scouting on the way up.

The topos of the area and google earth look good.

We are mostly looking to field hunt so hopefully that will help.

Thank you

I have a lot of friends that live in Gackle and are avid duck hunters. I was fishing over on Lake Alkaline on Saturday(just west of Streeter) and we saw some ducks...but the potholes are ROUGH. It won't take long to bump what's there. But at that time you're not really shoot many locals anyways.

That's pretty late to come out, strong risk of a freeze out.

PM if me if you remember where you hunted up towards Minot. I have a hunting house up that way.

We are hoping the weather is just going to start getting nasty we are going after more canadas then mallards but also like shooting mallards.

I am waiting on the guys to come up from arkansas and we are deer hunting opening weekend in nebraska before coming up and then trying to get the last weekend of deer in again.

Hoping everyone up their will be fed up will ducks like last year and is out chasing deer.
They pretty much gave us run of everything.

I will stay in touch maybe you can hook us up with some info when the time gets closer.

Are we bringing enough decoys for this late in the year.
10 doz canadas

5 doz mallards

4 spinners

Thanks

Looks like your weather is holding so far.

Thru the end of the month looks like the birds will still be up their.

I am looking at Jamestown area for the 17th of Nov if you dont freeze out by then.

I just got home today from ND. Hunted around the Gackle area. We did very good. The small potholes were freezing up already. Watched 1000's of snow geese moving south.
