What to expect?

Postby miken » Thu Jan 08, 2009 7:18 pm

Going up there this fall and I have been told to expect all kinds of waterfowl but can anyone tell me realistically what to expect. We are going on the opening weekend of the 09 season.
Thanks

This is what I've shot in ND (somewhere around Devils Lake  )

Mallards
Teal (no cinny's yet)
Gaddy's
Cans
Reds
Bills
Woody's
Pinnies
Widgeon
Bufflehead
Shovlers

I shoot mostly Mallards, Gaddys, and Teal becasue I'm a slough buster and rarely hunt big water.

We're going for the mixed bag of geese and duck. I guess what I'd like to know is if were going to run into snows and/or cranes? If so, what are our chances taking them with a canada and duck spread? Don't know if I said it but we're going Oct. 3rd.
Thanks

Plenty of Canadians flying, don't see to many snows that early in the season. 'Hear' plenty of cranes never deeked em in though, I figure it would take an hour for them just to get into our atmosphere.

Well I'll tell the guys to plan on canadas and ducks.
One more quick question, is it worth it for us to buy and bring snow dekes? We were only going to buy a dozen.

VERY rare the past 15 years to have true huntable numbers here on opener.
