Pintails

Postby Mr. Can » Mon Aug 10, 2009 8:50 pm

I am an avid waterfowler, over 20 years and have only seen 1 pintail, shotgun in boat, bummer!!! I usually go to the Devils Lake region and do very well, still never shot a pintail. Would love to shoot just 1. What is the best week to go to accomplish this. I usually go around the 15th, too late, too early?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

E

You probably need to get off the big water. They had a great year nesting in ND, so this should be a good year. When in doubt, head west.

Don't hunt the big water, just small potholes East of the city, do very well. Wondering if these
birds prefer a certain type of depth or food sorce?

Thanks,

You typically find them with the mallards. Check out the ND topography, I tend to see the most around the Missouri Couteau (running from the SE to the NW portion of state).

Early goose they are all over the place. You should have no problem getting one then.
