I'm Ba-aaaack!

Postby Botiz630 » Wed Oct 03, 2012 8:38 pm

I finally got moved back to Ohio, work transferred me back up but timing was beginning to make me worry I was going to miss hunting season. Looking forward to being back in a familiar place, I was born and raised here so it's a homecoming of sorts.

Hope everyone has a great season, I missed out on the family hunts last year so I'm really excited about getting back together with the clan. I'm driving up to Michigan this weekend to open up the South Zone with my uncle and cousin.

My favorite time of the year.

Welcome back Titz. Will try and get you on the Plond. You have your lay-out I assume? Corn planted versus beans this year (1st time in 10 years) so I expect better action in the field there too.

Thanks, HNT. I've got a layout and a decent collection of field goose decoys, from shells to FFD's in the garage if needed.

I've got a lab, he's certainly not up to the standards you're familiar with but he has retrieved plenty of birds for me. Maybe we could get together and you can evaluate whether he is up to snuff or not. I honestly would not be offended either way, just putting it out there.

Sounds like a plan to hook up anyway. Dog wise as long as any dog doesn't screw up a field hunt I'm good with it. This field is small and very tight with limited bird approach happy feet and such wouldn't work. If you remote sit the dog as I did, it can be put well behind us 60 yards in the brush.

I feel the same way, that's why I don't want to assume somebody else would be fine with him.

If a dog isn't necessary then I won't worry about it.

I thought you were going to hunt over water...no fun with out a dog! But a field hunt with an antsy dog is even worse.

Have fun fellas, I hope to see lots of pictures. In a year I bet HntFsh pup will be a great field hunting dog.

Geese no, ducks yes as far as better with a dog. Out choice on field versus plond will be based on available water in the wetland. Don't need as steady in the blind. Field wise remote sit would work, if the dog is accustomed it. It's so tight you get a lot of circling on Mallards to commit wings.

Botiz,
Your not that far from me either, fairly new to the area so dont have any fields but do have plenty of gear, decent dog, and very flexible work schedule. HNTFSH sounds like we know a few of the same people, hopefully we can get out this year.

Sounds fun, my dog and I area headed to North Dakota tomorrow for a week for a warmup. Probably will try to hunt public marsh north of cbus the week of the 13th if anyone is game. Just going to be me, dog, and sled of deeks so plan on walking back into places to get away from other people.
