Opening Day

Postby jsa » Sat Oct 18, 2008 8:07 am

So, I got out this morning for about an hour and a half. Now I'm at work. Nothing but high fliers early this morning. Someone was doing some good, but not us...

Maybe the farm pond will be better this afternoon....

How'd you do?

We killed two mallards and seven woodies this morning in Harrison County. Hunting creeks and beaver dams. If my one buddy could shoot we would have had several more. He was 0 for 10!! I will be back out monday morning!! Good luck.

Hopefully it will get better soon.

Mercer

Postby Brian425 » Sun Oct 19, 2008 6:31 pm

My son and I were at Mercer blind 1 for the AM hunt. Dropped three woodies and had to pass on a few more when he was out retrieving one of the others. Geese decided to finally cross the road about 8.30 and it only took 15min to get our four. I have been there a couple of times prior, and never had this success. I have to thank my buddy for letting my son and I have his permit for the day.

Thanks Burns!

10/18- We took 4 mallards and 2 woodies

10/19- We took 5 mallards and 1 GWT

Overall, not seeing the amount of ducks like I have in the past.

I still haven't done any good. Saw a couple lines of geese Sunday morning but not a bird in the sky at sunset.

I'm sure it will get better. Once everything freezes up I'm sure that the river will be a hot spot!

Is that the Great Miami River? Sure looks like a good spot to hunt. If it is the GMR, how did you obtain permission since most of it is owned by the conservancy district?

yes it is the great miami. Its a private farm with 1.25 miles of river frontage. I just stopped and asked the guy if we could hunt it and he signed the permission slips. The best part is that its 10 minutes from my house!

Got skunked on geese last Sunday morning but managed to get a woodie in the evening. At least its something instead of a big ole goose egg.
