The Blue wings are the primary target of teal season here in Ohio but you will sometimes run across a greenwinger during early season. They will work to mallard decoys but watch the young mallards as the don't have much color and are real small during teal season, you also have to watch out for woodies and shovelers all of which will zip in and out of your decoys. The teal will even come to canada goose decoys as I have shot them several time when hunt canada geese in the early season here over just goose decoys. If there are a lot of teal down I'll set teal decoys ( bluewing mostly) and about 3 or 4 mallards to increase visibility. A good fast load of #4 or #3 steel will make quick work of teal.

There is always a need for speed with steel shot

It's a banner couple weeks for the wildlife boys to be writing tickets and people going to court. Make sure you know it's a Teal. Those immature Woodies look alot like 'em!
