1st of 6 for Early Teal

Postby DucknGoodTime » Thu Jul 25, 2013 9:11 am

This is the 1st of half a dozen Blue Wings I'm putting together for this season.
Canvas on and shrunk, head carved out of basswood and textured

Blocked off some areas this morning ready for some paint after drying for awhile.

Will do, and these are some green wings I finished up last week. I drew up the pattern and did them all at the same time which was a mistake. Found out after it was too late that they are a tad too high for the width but they'll hunt anyway.

Thanks, I hope to keep improving. I tend to experiment with things on the fly.
As long as I have a rig ready by November I'll be tickled.

I'm not any good with paint so I wouldn't try something like that.

Trust me my painting skills are novice at best, for me its the most difficult part. I've been using acrylics but for that group of greenies I did an experiment and painted them with Rustoleum.

I think it would be neat to have some made by me eventually. Would be cool to say I shot birds over my own.

Calling this one done. Have some work to do on the pattern for the rest and the rest will be painted a little differently but it will hunt.

So how are you floating them? With a pontoon style or keel or something else?

I'm debating that while working on the rest. A pontoon type keel will work but I find I usually set up for teal in less than 3" of water so I'm leaning towards a simple pad weight that will have a small keel.

I may have misunderstood the question. These dont need anything to make them float, they float as is.

Four more drakes done. Painted these with Rustoleum. Have one left that will be painted in a hen style. That will complete my wire and canvas teal rig.

Thanks guys, I've got a hen left to do and just haven't gotten into the paint yet. It's sitting on the table staring back at me.
