Killed a big ole tar belly with a little leg iron this morning! Banded in 2013. 50 miles NE of Shageluk, Alaska.

Thanks guys! I'm pretty pumped about it.

Killed a banded ringneck 2 weeks ago but gave the band to a kid that was hunting with us when he said he shot it. That wasn't easy but it was the right thing to do. I guess this was a little karma coming back to me.

And yes, this old field general will have a spot on my wall!

Congrats! When you call in or online let us know where it was banded. I have three and always hopeful for another. I keep the certificates too.

First, Jdog, I don't like you. Replace "I don't like you" with any curse words of your choice as we can't really curse on here. Two bands in one season? I don't like you. (insert whatever smiley face that means "just messin' with ya").

Banded Speck I shot last year also came from "50 NE Shaglelug, Yukon-Koyukuk Cencus area, Alaska". Banded 7/12/12. VERY interesting our Specks were banded in same spot, probably by same guy!

Set up for geese the day after Specks go out of season and I guarantee you will see a speck.

Hahaha! Well, after 18 seasons without a band I have to play catch up.

I did some research on the speck banding up there and there are basically 3 places in Alaska where they concentrate strictly on Specks. It's the Midcontinent Greater White-Fronted Goose Banding program that has been going on since the 1960's. Here's a link that talks a little bit more about it and has some results from the 2010 season: http://www.fws.gov/alaska/mbsp/mbm/wate ... report.pdf
It's pretty interesting how they round these birds up while they are molting using aircraft.

Mine was banded by Dennis Marks.

This is so true! A few years back I had never killed a speck and it was at the top of my list. Last weekend of goose season when white fronts were closed I kid you not, I LANDED a group of 25+ directly in the middle of the decoys. I had never even seen a group like that let alone have them in my face. It was absolute torture. To top things off that was the only group of birds that were in range that day.

Ah yes, the curse of the speck. I too have landed several groups/singles/pairs in the decoys once they are out of season. i agree, it is absolute torture.
