Keystone ducks?

Postby Ely » Wed Feb 26, 2014 12:53 pm

Anybody ever hunted on keystone lake for teal? I'm gonna try and look at a few different spots this summer then head back and scout for them the weekend before season. But my question has any body have any luck there for teal?

Not a whole lot, looks promising but not a lot of birds.

CWC had more birds, but 5x the people. Pick your poison.

The Arkansas river corridor is a major BWT migration route.

Keystone is ~12' shallower than when initially impounded, per the siltation study done in 2003.

Several areas of quicksand and the Cimmaron arm is highly saline so if you run a OB engine, be prepared to flush it out, right away.

Cottonwood Creek WDU can hold birds but can be crowded as well.

Get a plat map of Tulsa & Muskogee counties and try to secure permission from some of the riverbed landowners from Bixby down to three rivers at Muskogee.

Be there on the full moon and you'll likley see a Grand Passage type event.

Been there, done that.

I've got a hunting map and talked to the biologist and game warden on areas for sure on boundaries. I know CWC gets crowded but what about some other sloughs that's not private owned would they be worth scouting?

As long as they (sloughs) are on COE/ODWC land, should be OK to hunt. Would recommend a boat as walking in can be tough especially with the depth of siltation in places like House creek and Pawnee Cove, etc..
