Wings, wings, and more wings

Postby kkelly » Tue Jul 08, 2014 8:46 pm

Hey guys, I've got a 10 week old pup. I'm looking at introducing feathers to him in the next few months and am wondering where I can get dove, pigeon, or duck wings as well as some live pigeons. Any ideas?

Thanks!

At 12 weeks put him on live pigeons and skip the wings. You will create more bad habits with wings than you will gain in exposure.

Do you know where I could get live pigeons? Also, not to question your advice (I'm new to training) but what kind of bad habits will be learned with the wings?

Check the Saturday sale over near Pryor, I think that is kinda close to you. If not let me know and I will get you some.

As far as the downside of the wings is they don't really translate well into real birds. They are too easy to chew on and don't really teach proper hold ect. In these early exposures your goal is to build excitement and drive, wings don't compare to a live bird flopping around to spark prey drive.

Great. Thanks razorback. I don't make it out to Pryor all that often. What kind of birds would be able to get and at what cost? Thanks again!!
