Well we walked into some ponds yesterday at about 540 am at least 200 birds took off out of the water we set out our decoys an as we got situated an waited for shooting time at 657 am it was crazy we had flock after flock cricleing our decoys coming right in to gun range probably 20 yards out an we must of seen a total over 100 an thought it would be a quick limit at 650 am another 8 mallards came by an then it was like someone flipped a switch an nothing was moving had 1 single fly by an a coulpe flocks os 4 or so way up high but nothing was interested any longer an after 11 am never seen another bird in the sky

In a situation like that all your going get is the 200 you pushed out. They come back fast, got to shoot well and let it rest.

Sounds like you were hunting the roost. If your going to do that come in a few minutes after legal shooting time and then set up. They will be buzzing around for 15-20 minutes before they are gone. Best practice ultimately is to not hunt a roosting location.

You dont want to hunt the roost because you will push the birds that are there out of the area
