september goose season

Postby gracenjohn » Sun Aug 14, 2005 11:15 pm

26 days and a wakeup. I have to work that morning, but am hopping in the jeep to meet up with my wife's uncle and try to get an early jump on the season. I have been anxiously awaiting sales on shotgun shells, so please post up if any one sees great prices anywhere. The best I can come up with is hevishot at Sportsmans's Warehouse 3" ounce and a quarter #4 for 15.50, with a rebate that makes it $13 for the box. Still spendy as hedoublehockeysticks, but I think it will make for a fun goose hunt. I'll pack along the spare box of Winchester Supreme BB's just in case.

5 days and a wake up! Without giving away your special hole, has anyone had success scouting? A friend up in Hillsboro is hoping his field holds the 50 or so that have been visiting morning and evening. Grace and I are planning on checking out Basket Slough and Ankeny this afternoon to see how many are around.

please report in.

I saw small flights of around a dozen in two different spots, but couldn't get them tracked down on public land. Hope there was some success out there.

we scrathed out a couple. 2 in the bag and one crip that was on the water, but somehow managed to get up and fly off. we boated the marsh and glassed all the points with binocs for an hour or so looking for it..never recovered it though.

had a chance at a nice group of about 8 coming in low and swinging downwind for a landing approach, but they got flared by a passing boat and just kept on heading downwind. that was about 4 minutes away from being reeeeaaaal ugly for them honkers..they got a hall pass on that one.
