BANDED GOBBLERS

Postby suskiedrake » Mon Mar 20, 2006 11:25 pm

I read in Patriot news last week that the PGC is banding 300 gobblers this season as a project. Has anyone else heard anything on this?

They are trying to do 300 birds across the state(along with NY and OH)(6 regions they made). Last countI heard was they were half way there with a month to go. They had to stop yesterday since thebait sites needed cleared 30 days before the season(youth opensin 30 days) There are reward bands in the mix and every birds get two bands doing studies on how the different types of bands hold up. The PA Chapter of the NWTF is responsible for supply alot of funding for this.

I get the scoop on stuff like this now since I work for the N W T F now :-) (Thoughit has been published a lot on different papers etc.)

I put a few birds to sleep lastnight and with the binnows from about 200 yards I could have sworn I saw a bird that was banded. I didn't read this threat til now and maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. I guess I'll hopefully find out soon enough.
