so due to an opportunity i wasn't expecting, i may be re locating to the east side of the country. i'm an avid fowler from iowa, but a job opportunity popped up for me in new york city that is very appealing. basically the only way i could tolerate it would be to purchase a house in eastern pa and rent a small apartment in nyc (have a friend who has one available for me). i travel to that part of the country frequently, so i am very familiar with the dynamics of the city and some of the ins and outs of travelling between the city and pa...however, i would have some time off and a lot of weekends to spend fowling and working on projects around the house. my wife would be travelling with me and probably working in the city as well. we woudn't need much for a home, and in fact garage space would be the most important!
my main concern would be places in pa, or even jersey that would be 3 hours or less from new york (i also realize 3 hours can be 5 some days :)) is it possible to find a place that is in a safe area (house would be un attended at times during the week) with decent waterfowl hunting that is within a reasonable drive. i don't need the names of any honey holes, but im just curious about migration routes, public hunting etc. i will certainly put my time in trying to find fields and private land as well. i will also be bringing my boat with me...i would prefer not to live in town, since im sure i will get enough city during the work week :)
this isn't a done deal, i'll be more than happy to stay in iowa if i have to, but the money is pretty good and could offer myself and my wife opportunities that we haven't had available to us in the past
