I took Vincent to Pymie a few months ago, lucky sucker shot a banded mallard.

Vincent took me out today, guess what?

If you said 'Don, you shot a banded bird!' I'd say

Winner Winner! Chicken Dinner!

After one of the worst beginnings and actually talking about just going home and back to bed, we stuck it out. I said at one point, just when it seems so lousy, that's when great hunts happen. We agreed and pressed on with the hunt.

With a great result.

Thanks, Vinnie. A great hunt for sure.

Nice late season hunt.

Every single goose I've found in the last two weeks has been in a baseball field, someone's yard, or feeding in a cow pen behind someone's barn.

Our problem has been them not leaving the water until late, or sometimes not at all. They're not patterning for crap, either. When you think you've got them, a weather system disrupts everything. I've got 2 spots for Saturday lined up, both on the water. The last hurrah for me this year.

Congrats. Most bands seem to have a unique and memorable story behind them.

Nice job congrats on the band. Our group broke up and covered 2 fields and I picked the wrong field. I have the worst luck with bands. This was on the 23rd.

Wow. I had an invite out with KDS on the last Thursday for a roost blowout. I couldn't make it, they banged limits including two bands. Coolest part, KDS shot a bird that was 9 digits off, banded on the same day, same spot, almost 5 years after I took one out of the flock that was banded. Funny how that bird had gone zero miles in 5 years and was right where it was supposed to be.

There's always next year... and plenty of bands out there. Including the 8 in between our bands.

That's right. My buddy Eddie, an archery guy, went on his first goose hunt this season. The guys give him first whack on the flock and his first 3 shots with a shotgun in forever drop 3 banded geese. Then, it's relative to how much you scout too. Geese you can search for bands to some extent. I have to start to put more effort scouting geese more thoroughly. KDS puts in the time, time that I used too. It can pay off and does. Eventually my kids will be able to be left alone or be old enough to go. 4 more years, 4 more years...

That is classic. Yeah the boys spotted bands in that field they killed 4 in before they went. It is nice being in college and having the time to scout. Actually it is gonna suck when I can't scout nearly as much.

I can't believe that I forgot the buckets the last time we went out, KDS. We even had some snow on the ground. SMH. I know we should technically sit on them in the green weeds, but we could have made due.

I wish i was in school and had time, but that would mean trading all I have. If the youth season is still going when 4 little Don Taylor's get guns in their hands, the ducks will have some serious problems.
