2-3 months tops
You are joking I assume. Do you have any idea how long it takes a bird to set up 100% ? I have never heard of a taxidermist that produced mounts that fast. If I received a call saying my bird was ready 2 months after drop off, I would be worried. Any taxidermist returning work that fast must not have much business. A year is pretty much the norm from my past experiences. Any GOOD taxidermist should have a back log of work if he or she is really good.
I started doing my own birds years ago. Pretty shaky at first but over the years and countless birds later, I am finally getting the hang of it. Only problem is, you acquire so many mounts after years of practice, you run out of wall space. My wife calls my man cave "The Death Room ". It is one of our spare bedrooms. When any of her friends come to stay for the night, they freak out and say their is NO way I am sleeping in that room with all those eyes looking at me. I have given numerous mounts to friends just to make wall space for the new ones. Practice makes perfect.
