I have shot one in 16 years. I see them migrating north but rarely see them going south.

I have one in my freezer. I shot it two seasons ago, and don't think I'm going to get it mounted now. It's a shame, almost fully plumage drake. It's funny how other things take priority in life.

FYI, it was a single that flew into my mallard decoys the second week of December

Guys shoot them in Erie and at Pymatuning. I saw one killed 3 seasons ago, a decent drake.Early december during the last year we had decent weather. That was down in SW.Pa though. I've never shot one, but you'll see them in pics taken by guys who hunt up there more often than I do.

A few seasons ago I shot one at Hartstown swamp on the season opener. If you ever have the opportunity to hunt in ND or SD there is no doubt you'll harvest some shovelers. Last season in ND I shot numerous in the week I was there.

Happy hunting,
Justin

I've been seeing them here in Indiana a few times in the past 5 years. My buddy shot one this season, I believe in late November.
