New Calls.

Postby don taylor » Wed May 01, 2013 9:16 pm

Well, I'm still addicted to duck calls, here's the latest edition. Made custom to my order, an African Blackwood and Zebrawood call with a brass band. Engraved in the band is 'chairman' and the Allegheny Chapter of Delta Waterfowl logo is branded into the side. The call was made by Trent's Custom Calls in Oklahoma and for the price, a whopping $50, I got about a hundred dollars in call. He uses an original toneboard and the sound is great. He's got another handsome call style other than this, sleeker and more bullet like. It's equally as pretty.

I also have an Olt World logo call from the 1950Ls being cut by Heath Vanlandinghan as a hunting call. I figure If I'm going to carry a cutdown, why not carry something I'll likely never see in Pa? No doubt Heath knows his stuff around a cutdown, either. He's one of the few people who are known for their skill doing this. Pics will follow in a week or two when it gets here.

Nice looking call! Gotta love a custom call.

I don't own anything but customs now. I sold off my Echos, Foiles, etc over the past few years. No looking back now.

Well, I never thought a 60 year old call would become my new go to call, but this bad boy is. If you've heard cut downs are hard to use, this is the cut that puts that rumor to rest. I've carried an Echo timber for 6 seasons, it's been retired.

Heath Vanlandingham. I can't say enough about the guy and his modifications. If his cut was the one cutdown's were known for, more guys would carry them. Many guys are probably looking at this and thinking 'that's an old Olt, I wouldn't want that.' That's what I said. I stalled for years, I couldn't justify buying this old call somebody filed down and then I finally took the plunge and ordered one. Best call purchase I've ever made. Hands down. I also never understood why guys who use them don't carry other styles and kinds of calls. Now I know that, too. It's all you need and there's nothing you can't do and do well with one.

I just placed my order for an Acrylic Double Reed call from Trent's Custom Calls after viewing this post and researching other makers. Trent's prices are great and based on the comments and pictures I have seen his calls are high quality. I am looking forward to receiving the call in a couple of weeks.
