Youth Saturday

Postby SQUAWKnemi » Wed Sep 11, 2013 10:24 pm

Been a while since ive been around... thank you to the summer internship... But hopefully everyone is doing well.

Second best day of the year, next to the duck opener of course, comes this saturday. I know I sure miss the days when I didnt have to fight the old heads over who gets first shot and who has to drive home. Hopefully everyones taking the young guys out or at least trying. Good luck to everyone headed out and stay safe, smart, and set an example... we dont need any more guys being taught the wrong way.

Gooserslan and I are taking out Joey, a kid we've taken out before and is on his last youth day. We're also taking out a kid who I meet shooting trap this summer who's pretty handy with a shotgun. He's 15 too. If we see the ducks I saw during the goose opener, these kids are in for a fantastic day. The weather is supposed to be prime for killing ducks, cloudy and 45. I'm excited like I'm the one who's shooting ducks.

I have an early goose spot that's been seeing about 50-100 ducks in it every day on top of the honkers. They'll crash right into my goose spread like they're kamikazees too! Wonder if I know any juniors that would like to warm up a barrel?...

i was gettin a little down since my nephews are either to old or have football. that changed when a guy that works for the company told me about his daughters and turkey hunting and now they want to hunt ducks.

A little clay bustin a few weeks ago and they are pretty excited. Hard to tell who's more excited, the kids or the adults takin them

good luck to all.

How'd everyone do? I know I saw on fb some of u guys had luck. I got my cousin out, created an addict. We had a ton of woodies work early than a few pairs of mallards later. His shooting coulda been better but i think duck fever kicked in because I've seen him drop doves at further ranges than he was shooting today. It'll come with time tho. He walked away with a woody hen and what I'm even more excited for than him getting his first bird is hes already asking to get out again.

The kid I took out had 10 shooting opportunities shot 11 shots. He wasn't fast enough on some, had some decoy, some shots swimming in the deeks. All mallards and woodies. He didn't touch a feather :lol3: . His dad doesn't get him out to shoot a shotgun much. We laughed and had fun though and we will do it again.

We had a great first youth day of the season, can't wait until next Saturday. Lots of ducks flying around, should have had a few more.

3 woodies and a mallard drake over the decoys. We missed some easy ones, but all in all it was a good day.

It was a fun morning for me. Seeing all the birds in my area makes me pumped for opening day.

Youth Saturday

Postby Coleman24 » Mon Sep 16, 2013 7:13 pm

Had the pleasure of taking out a youth this last Saturday.. Although we had birds in the decoys, he didn't get a duck. But he loved seeing how they worked. He was asking questions, enjoying the wildlife, and chiming in on our BSing by telling us some stories of his fishing success. It was a great morning, and we definitely created a waterfowl addict.

I forgot to mention how great of a shot he had on some of those geese though.. He loved it

Nice guys. The pic of that little man and that pea shooter is pretty cool. His dad probably has that on his desk already.

I've got another first timer Saturday. I've got a new plan for this kid. He's only shot a doe before and shotgunning experience is nonexistent. But, his dad is one off my oldest buddies and I'm thinking a well concealed blind and a 'turkey shoot' is in order.I'm going to only okay shots on sitting birds, there's no point in poking holes in the sky. That just means I have to work that much harder to make it happen. Fine by me. I'm ready.
