Building Blinds on Islands

Postby creekkiller23 » Sun Jan 26, 2014 1:48 pm

I was wondering if anyone knows the regulations for building perminant blinds on public islands on the delaware river?

Is it done? Yes. Is it legal? That's another question. Legally, you can't build a structure on public land. Many islands flood and you're risking adding more junk to our river systems. You cannot use vegetation found on the island to construct your blind. Dead or alive, you can't use it. Now, given the area, will you be harrassed over it? Likely, no.

Permanent blinds are a dead give away that it's a good spot. You don't need a blind to hunt from. If you're worried about being exposed, use a layout blind.

Just tie a milk jug to it with your name and phone number. Anyone that wants to use it should call you. It's only respectful to do so.

I actually never thought about that as well but we have all been there bringing stuff on a boat layout blinds add just one more thing to a boat with no room already and do you know why it's illegal to use dead or alive vegetation because even if you stack some logs and throw some verification on it because technically I have not killed any wild plants or removed them from the island. I am just trying to find out as much as possible because no one not even the game commision knows About the laws on the islands it's all
About which warden you talk to

The reason why you can't use vegetation, dead or alive, is dead trees, logs, that kind of stuff is part of the landscape. You can't alter it to suit your needs while other's would see it as an eyesore. Also, we have species of animals that make their home in dead logs, like wood rats, squirrels, woodpeckers search for food in them.. Live vegetation is illegal for obvious reasons. If you are on private property, use what you like. If you're on public land, you're risking a ticket. Even if you haul brush into public land to use, you better pacl it up. Lastly, even if you sit in the blind but didn't build it, you're the one at fault. Like climbing a tree stand that is nailed into a tree on public land. You didn't build it, but by using it, you're guilty.
