Feral hogs in Pa.

Postby don novicki » Sun Mar 23, 2014 11:00 am

I don't know if we have any here in Pa. yet but are we allowed to shoot them if we see them or are they off limits? I looked at the rules but it didn't really state that we could take em out if we see them.

Yes they are here and shoot away. They are an invasive species " all hogs" , I have talked with game wardens and they all said they are open all year. I have seen them at Moraine state park but was armed with waterfowl loads or a fishing rod, neither make a good hog weapon.

I used to see quite a few in college. They mostly came out late at night. I tried to stay away from them, they can be very aggressive. My one buddy had too much to drink once and woke up with a big hog twice his size. I really don't know if shooting them is the right answer, he just sent her back to her sorority house. But better to error on the side of caution.

When Big Mike's game farm closed up, the animals on the property left unattended, got out. There was a decent population around Somerset, but the locals and a few others put a serious hurting on them. I don't know of any West of Somerset. Moraine is crawling with hunters during deer season. I don't know how they'd last through the winter.
