teal in PA?

Postby roscoesbuddy » Mon Apr 25, 2005 9:18 am

i'm was curious if anyone in western PA see's or kills any greenwing or bluewing teal. and roughly were at. i've been doing a lot of scouting since the end of the season and would really like to kill some teal. i just don't know were to look. are there more in the southren part of the state or northren. do they like rivers, creeks, small lakes, or ponds. do they like wooded areas or not. any info on successful teal hunts and relative location would be great thanks.

Can't help you out with western PA but I can tell you we have a decent amount of GWT here in the eastern part of the state. Very few BWT though. They seem to like the same kinda areas that woodies like. We kill them around islands on the susquehanna river and creeks that have a mix of wooded areas and pastures. Hope this helps some.

I have not shot a GWT but the guys I hunt with have. We have blue bills out the butt. I would suggest you guys on the west part of the state come up to the lake during the season. I will help you as much as I can.

I see teal here in october. They seem to migrate early. By the end of october i don't see them anymore. If I see them when i am scouting I will let you know. They are the only ducks that i have got three of them with one shot.

I saw seven GWT on the river the other night while scouting for geese near a refuge island on the susquehanna river.

On the first day last year I shot 3 GWT from 8-10 in the swamps in Waterford, Also a Black duck and a very mature female woody. Teal are fast though you either see them or you are already to late when they wiz by.

I'll be around for a while, just been working my tail off lately and trying to train my lab.
