unique leg band

Postby R.I. Red » Thu Mar 04, 2010 6:41 pm

Hello all,
First of all we had a great year hunting geese with field decoys. The first and last week were slow but other than that limits were frequent with some spectacular hunts, especially with snow covers on the lay out blinds. I'm going through withdrawals so I'm practicing on my new double reed call.Starting to get some good sounds. We shot 8 bands in Little Compton this year. I sent in the info and recently received an e-mail asking for digital camera verification because the band represented " non-typical migration". A week later I received the info on the goose. It was banded near Rigolet, Newfoundland. That's the longest distance I've recorded over the years. Before that I had a goose several years ago banded on Prince Edward Island. As an aside I ordered a DVD about goose calling called Bad Grammar the DVD. If you are trying to learn how to properly call using a double reed buy it.($20). Sept. early season is right around the corner.

Very cool!

I have seen bands on geese taken from PEI, but never Newfoundland. :clapping:

'Honker Talk' by Shawn Stahl is also a good video on short-reed goose calling.

I shot some Eiders from Newfoundland with bands but not geese.
I shot a goose from Pei in Mass with a neck collar.

When you get to be my age, it's always a race to see if you'll piss inside or outside of your waders!!
