goose variety

Postby R.I. Red » Mon Oct 11, 2010 4:30 pm

A flock of migrants arrived a few days ago. They are all smaller than the usual canada geese we get around here in Little Compton and their honk is a little higher pitched. The coloration and everything else is the same. There is a flock of about 30 of them eating in a cornfield daily. Any idea of what species of goose are we dealing with here?

Possibly Richardson's cacklers? They have been sighted before in New England. Did they appear after the recent strong NW winds?

Migrators are showing up already for sure.

The AP geese (migrators) are smaller then our RP (resident) birds.
