Rhody divers

Postby ChrisR » Thu Mar 20, 2008 7:56 pm

I was just wondering when the best time to hunt for divers the likes of goldeneye, bufflehead, scaup and hooded meganser is in Rhode Island? I fish there a lot so it is about time I give the duck hunting a try as well. I'd really like to target those ducks specifically. It would be a whole new experience from the typical puddle ducks I have hunted in the past.

Thanks,
Chris

I usually get my Buffles and Zips towards the end of the season. But like the Capt said there is really nothing in stone as to what time of the season it is best. For those ducks lots of scouting around even during the season is best. Same goes for the Bluebills too.
Give me a PM ;)

We get em' in the diver rig.

It seemed like there was alot more of em' around then in past years.

Like the guys said, I don't know how much luck you would have just targeting hoodies, unless you really had a spot that was holding em'.

Thanks for the responses. The hoodies would definitely be a bonus duck. I'd probably throw a spread of Whistler decs and a few buffies and target them primarily. What kind of locations would I be best off hunting though? Open water? The ponds just in off the shore?
