Eurasain Wigeon

I was gifted to harvest this bird the last day of the season on the last hour of our hunt here in RI. I have only seen them in photos and never in the wild. 33 years of waterfowling. I now only have one duck to get a grand slam for the alantic flyway.

Rifleman, yes it is going to the taxidermist. I'm shipping it out to the "Birdman" in Co. He does about the best work I've ever seen.

From what I've come up with, there is only a handful shot on the east coast yearly.

Nice job on a rarely seen bird. Did you know what it was before you pulled the trigger?

I emailed you a while back, about your dog, did you ever recieve the email?

No Capt. I don't think I ever recieved your email. PM or email me again.

As far as knowing what it was in flight. First I thought it was a Wigeon, then I thought it was a Red Head because I shot one the day before, then I thought it was a Can. When I knew it wasn't a Can I pulled the trigger. Only as I pulled the trigger I had a feeling I knew what it was. It was coming straight in overhead and only offering a passing shot , all I could see was a dark breast and a red head. When it hit the water I was as excited as a kid in a candy factory.

Congrats,

definetly a trophy

my buddy took one several years ago on the Cape, I am amazed by the number of Widgeon on the bay this time each year. There is a flock of about 25 near the base right now.

Would that remaining bird be a Harliquen(sp)?

Great looking dog! By chance is he the Cover Dog for the RI abstracts this year.

Well make that 2 birds left to harvest. The Harliquen has been off limits for so long now, I never considered it. I can't seem to get a ringneck, next year that's my target.

Yes that's my dog Cutter on the cover with my neighbor Lowell.

Mike are you just a little bit jealous.

If you want to hunt Mass I can put you on some Black-Jacks behind my house  "almost" a sure thing :hammer:

Cutter is a fine Dawg  but I'm surprised the state didn't photoshop the "Red Rocket" he is sporting. Then again ducks & geese get us all "excited"

The picture I sent to DEM was just what I thought a rough draft. I had planed to photoshop a hard copy for them but they said the copy I sent them via the internet was fine. So let it go and didn't say anything.

Very nice!!

I too was fortunate enough to get a drake Eurasian Wigeon some years ago but unfortunately he was busted up far too bad after the shot that he couldn't be mounted but at least I have a good picture of him in the album.

Well done!

Congrats, my cousin shot one down here on LI years back. I scouted the bird for 45 days, saw it many times, never got a shot. NEVER get up to pee. I came back and there it was in his hands. Oh well at least I know who got lucky!
Sea ducks are for me, lets hunt in 10 footers and sink the boat. THAT is excitement!!!!
