Rice Breast Disease

Anybody ever heard of this or seen it? Looks pretty nasty to me. Not sure I could eat that but they say you can.

It's pretty common out here on the other coast. One day I shot 5 mallards and 4 of them were infected. We usually get a few each season. Everyone recognizes that it's supposed to be OK to eat once they're properly cooked but I don't know a single person who's ever done it. Straight into the garbage can for me. Sad.

Of course, for those folks who pluck and draw their birds instead of breasting them, who knows how many they may have eaten? :eek:

I eat them all of the time. But then again I even eat at fast food joints, so not much bothers me. :lol3:

I have seen it one or two times in birds I've killed. Makes your skin crawl when you get in there and see it.

That's why I hate to pluck em whole...you can't see what might be under that skin :hi: I'll take a peek under the skin after I pluck em, see it once and you will too.

We killed a couple last year in Arkansas with it....and...I haven't died yet
