Just passing the time ...

Postby romeocadet08 » Tue Aug 20, 2013 10:46 am

From the Fall until the end of Spring I'm wide open fully locked on feathers, feathers, and more feathers ...from SC, KS, OK, AR, NE and the Dakotas I stay locked on and the chin strap buckled!!

So needless to say...From the end of May through September is a rough time for me...the withdrawals are terrible and I need my fill to nip the jonesin'...I'm not much of a wood goat hunter now as I use to be in my younger days....just lost the fire somewhere along the way...the salt water is as close to a "answer" to my fix during these off months as anything. Yet, I still find myself wishing I could exchange the rod/reel in my hands and heat beating down on me for a scatter gun and a nice stiff N wind and cold weather ....

With the fast approaching resident canadas, early teal, and dove seasons closing in on us the itch is at it's PEAK...I'll eventually stash the rod/reel back on the rod holders in the garage and let em collect dust again till next June.

Here's my summer summed up thus far...

It's been a good summer thus far as far as the fishing goes ...we hit some periods of tough water this summer due to the torrential down pours we had for weeks ...but definitely not complaining because lord knows we've been in dire need of a good solid wet spring/summer. I'll gladly sacrifice the fishing for some aqua!! Not to mention our corn crop is through the roof!!

In finishing ...

The time is upon us boys!!! It's been a good summer and I've enjoyed every single minute of it but its time for my favorite time of the year....the Fall....good luck to everyone this coming season, be safe, be courteous, and enjoy every single last second of it, regardless of full limits, half limits, or empty kill straps.....because you never know when the big man upstairs will punch your ticket!!!

Some sound advice right there! Nice work with the "spots" RC and I hope your season is as good as your summer was!

Really enjoyed looks at the pics of all Reds! Man it makes me wish I was back in Louisiana. Are you in South Carolina? My goal for next spring is to make it South Carolina for some Redfishing now that I got my new rig for shallow water.

Hahaha. I hear ya on the flounder and trout!! It's been a "off" year for the flounder gigging. I'd rather stab em at night under the lights than chase em during the day!! Nothing eats better than the trout fishes!!!

Fished with my good friend, his grandad, and another buddy on bulls bay all weekend. The fishing was excellent and the shrimping was almost as good as the fishing

We caught right at 100 redfish from Thursday - Saturday. The best day was Thursday with almost 50 total. We cooler'd out Thursday on the shrimps ...also cooler'd out on Friday and Saturday!!

All fish on Thursday were caught on live shrimp....every single one of em. Went back to the exact same place on Friday at the exact same time and the tide, weather was almost identical and they wanted nothing to do with shrimp...all finger mullet...it still baffles me when they do this.

I think that front that rolled through really "shut down" the fishing

RC, Any pointers on shrimping BB. (tides, time of day, technique?) Never shrimped there. We shrimped the harbor Sat. night and we're extremely disappointed. Made us wish we hadn't worried with the bait balls and poles. But did manage a few dozen Whiting before settin the poles. Thanks

The lower the water the better...they haven't really showed up yet though. Only reason we did well with them is because my buddies grandad has been over at their summer house since last monday and he's stayed on them about everyday when catching bait so we kinda had a little inside info. In all my years I've always had the best luck on a incoming tide catching the larger shrimp coming into the bay.

So similar to the harbor then... there's nothing like "being there" to know exactly what's goin on. Talked to a buddy in Edisto Sunday and according to him everything seems to be 6 weeks behind this year.? I really appreciate the info and might nag you again sometime if I have a question.

Not a problem at all. Feel free to pic anytime ..don't know how much help I can be but I'll sire try to help ya in any way I can. And you're right...if you can shrimp the harbor than you can shrimp BB or anywhere else for that matter ..it just may take a few more trips to "learn" the area.

Your buddy is right!! So far, everything has been running behind..all that freshwater has really "messed" up our estuaries this summer but I'm not complaining one bit bc lord knows we needed it
