Trip to NE SoDak

Postby brad43 » Wed Oct 23, 2013 6:56 pm

I'm going to be out early next week for a 3 day hunt staying at Roy Lake.

Wondering about good waters for divers, since looking at the weather the smaller waters I've hunting in the past might be locked up at some point. Just wondering if there are any lakes that are typically better that others. I plan on spending most of the day Sunday scouting. Any ideas would be appreciated.

There are lakes that are better then others but they become crowded very quickly when you start telling others about them. You are in a good area so just drive around and scout. Thats the best I can give you.

Check the fishing reports...hot bite equals less ducks on the water.

Thanks for the info. I just got back - I scouted all over NE SD and found a lake with totally epic diver hunting! And I had the whole place to myself - unreal!

Just got back from Northeast SD lats night. We had good hunts on grey ducks for three days but divers were not around where we were at. One lake we usually hunt will usually be black with bluebills this time of year. Did not see one bluebill on the lake or surronding areas and we did alot of scouting. At least we had a few EPIC hunts as people love to say.

Or should I say we put the SMACK DOWN on them. Thats another populare phrase I guess!. LOL.

I'm seeing divers on a lot of smaller water this year, whereas last year they were staging on bigger water. Drove past a slough we can hunt while scouting last night and there were cans, buffies, and ringers out there in good numbers.

I didn't see but a few bluebills when I was there......I only shot one. Plenty of redhead and ringneck to fill in. Some cans, but they were really spooky. Lots of suicidal bufflehead if that's what your into.
