This forum is for those who enjoy South Dakota duck hunting. And from spring Snow goose hunting and the Pheasant hunting in the #1 Pheasant state in the US.
Have any of you SD boys ever gotten a nice full plumaged northern shoveler? This is a problem i got it is all i think about there so damn good looking.. i go out only once a year to hunt SD during late october. When is the best time to go for the nice full plumaged shovelers and wher eis best to hunt em'? I got 4 this year but none were colored nice.

17 years of hunting sd and i have never shot a full plumage spoonie. The only time i have seen them here with all their plumage is the spring.

I've shot one close to being fully plumaged out. It was late in the year. Talking late Novemeber.

The best legal time to shoot a full plum spoonie is in Arkansas in late January. They tast pretty good then as well due to primarily feeding on rice.
