I was just in Bogota this past weekend working on our pit and I didn't noticed anything planted at the state blinds. I may be wrong but I didn't see anything at all.

TN N.W. , Good luck. Let me know how you did and how is the best way to hunt it. I hope TWRA has put out something like corn or beans to get the ducks in there. I hate to drive 7hrs not kill any thing, but I have done it more than once not to kill a deer. Got lucky this year in W. TN killed 2 this year a 4 and 6 pointers.

I've been drawn for POOL 4 on opening weekend (24th and 25th). I hunted Reelfoot on the 10th so after the hunt was over I drove down to Bogota to check out the area. Man, was I disappointed. No crops, no mowing, no tilling, and no water in any of the areas legal for permits. 2 weeks until season and not one drop of water is being pumped. TWRA has dropped the ball again. All the other TWRA flooded areas and dewatering areas are brimming with water. Come on TWRA. Buy a few gallons of diesel and at least mow the cockelburrs. There was one spot with corn, but it was last year's crop if not older.

NO WATER + NO FOOD = NO DUCKS.
NO DUCKS = NO HUNTERS.

I won't be using my permit when it's valid. I've got a spot on Kentucky Lake (non-WMA) swarming with thousands of puddle ducks every year. It would be nice to hunt a flooded field though. But in my opinion, I would be wasting my time at Bogota.

WHAT UP??

Postby SFD1540 » Sun Nov 25, 2007 6:05 pm

Went to Memphis for Thanksgiving, so Saturday we drove up to Bogota. Well on the way up we seen ducks in every pond we passed. We got to Bogota and there was very little water and on birds. So what is going on up there?? Has TWRA droped the ball? And I thought there was a hunt up ther this weekend, I didn't see a person. Here is the water I was talking about. Some body let me know if they have seen anything different than this. Pic is of Pool 1 .Image T.Image

I called yesterday and they said they did have water and they did plant crops. Corn in all holes and rice in pool 7. I drew 7 for this weekend.

Hunting was poor for me. Maybe it was me or maybe it was the ducks. So i set up in the middle of a rice field and used some tall weeds for cover. Well, the ducks couldn't be called or decoyed over so i moved to where they were wanting to land. Got there and wasn't able to get covered. The black birds were even flaring off me. Lots of ducks were using my pool, pool 7. Didn't see any birds in the other fields. I left by 8:30 with one teal. Got to a spot with some friends closer to home and killed 15 within two hours.

One week before season I scouted. I had Pool #4 for the opener. When I was scouting I found nothing planted in Pool #4 except cockelburrs and no water the day I was there - 1 week before season.

Maybe they planted corn and used super miracle grow after I was there.

TWRA isn't telling the truth - unless someone moved the sign that said Pool #4 to this cockelburr field.
