I'm done with public hunting.

Now that everyone has jumped on the duck hunting bandwagon I am jumping off. any piece of good public hunting land is over hunted and over crowded. I am going to spend the money and buy some land(or lease) instead of constantly having to fight crowds and people that have no clue what they are doing.

get ready to drop some $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

i thought that too. started going with a buddy of mine who is on one of our company leases, good hunting but you have to still put up with barneys out there too! not near as many there as on public land, but they are still there...

they're like ants, some places worse than others and the world won't ever be completely rid of 'em!

I feel your pain! :pissed:
With the dwindling lightly hunted public areas, the tides or water holes drying up, the lack of ducks in the area, and the cost of gas...I've been putting numbers to selling the boats and dekes, and using the money to finance hunts with outfitters from now on.

Yeah, anywhere on Cooper is a pain now a days.

not only there is no water but if there is there will be more hunters hunting it than there are birds.

My hunting days at cooper ended two years ago. not enough places to hunt for all the hunters that drive there..... some as far away as Ft. Worth and Longview :pissed:

I am from Longview and have to leave at 1am to get to Lake Cooper and get th espot I want, unless I stay at the motel or state park. Late in the year last year the place was almost deserted and I had some pretty good hunts.

I went to Richland Chambers about two weeks ago and there were wayyyyy to many hunters. I didn't even hunt. Sat on one of the dikes for about an hour and just watched birds fly around scared to death to land. I just won't hunt with someone else 150 yds close to me.

Thats about what me and my dad said after a while. He eventually got 300 acres out just outside of Lake Palestine, near Tyler and Athens. We now have a 28 acre Beaver Pond on it and a 18 acre area of controlled water that we are now trying to get developed to work. So far, no matter how many people are with us our hunts consist of 5-6 ducks. So things arent going as well as we could hope. But we DONT have to mess with other hunters. Thats a good thing.

I think location is the key. Mossyduck said he has a private lake close to Lake Cooper which is an area with prime waterfowl habitat and attracts alot of ducks. The Tyler/Longview area is just not very conducive to duck hunting. Try hunting Lake O Pines. It is usually overhunted and you usually don't have very good luck there. I had a good lease outside of Gilmer for about 3 yrs and we did very well at times.

Thanks. Soon I am going to look into prices on some land up around Cooper. My plan is to buy the land have my friend who owns a bull dozer come out and dig me some large shallow areas. Then plant some natural vegetation, wait a year and see how things go. I'll keep you posted.

Private is the way to go. We have a small ranch up around Sulphur Bluff with a 35 acre private lake, not too far from Cooper. I have hunted there 4 times this season with a limit everytime.
my firend from Cooper is always telling me about a small lake near Cooper(I always forget the name) that is private but holds tons of duck all season.
