Postby WildDuckman » Mon Jan 07, 2013 7:18 pm

Fellas I'm lookibg for a guide either in Texas or Louisana for some fine wing shooting. My dad and I are looking for a professional ran service. We're looking to kill canvasbacks, bills and pintails. Both of us are really wanting to get us a bull can and a nice pintail. I know you guys will know... So I came to the experts. Thx guys.

How far into Texas are you looking to go, I know a few outfitters near Rockport and Corpus and a few other Hunt/fish combo guides in South Texas. Can't beat the swamps of Louisiana though.

Habitat Flats is booked through next season already... And that's Missouri, pretty sure the OP was asking about TX and LA.

If you're gonna hunt with anyone in LA, check out Honey Brake!!

Do realize that you're not likely to find cans and sprigs in the same habitat. It might take you two trips to get both. That is unless Pouldeau wants to offer up a hunt assuming he will have water next year... He and I shot this limit Christmas Eve of 2011!

You should probably post this in the HH...

Also, I noticed you posted the same thread in 4 other different forum sections. Let us know if you find a place.

The OP responded "anywhere" to a question of how far into Texas he was willing to travel... I offered up Honey Brake and a lead in which he could contact via this board!! Nice try though Matt...

Texas ... but like Mojo said, it takes a very specific environment to hold both at once. Typically, if you're hunting where there is a huge concentration of pintails your cans are going to there in a 1:10,000 ratio and vice versa. The problem with cans is that you need open fresh water to hold concentrations in guaranteed numbers.

If you go to the coast, you WILL kill your pintails, but no one can promise you the canvasbacks.

Unfortunately, I have not been. It is a bit out of my price range, but I have heard stories from people that have been. It's hard for me to get a group of guys that can all afford that. My dad and I use to go to the Buckshot Duck Lodge in Arkie, but he doesn't hunt anymore.... :fingerhead:

Like I said, I don't think you or anyone else will be disappointed. I expect a full write up when you get back.

Don't forget your camera.

Appreciate the thought, but cans are pretty rare here in SWLA. Would think SE Louisiana the best best for both cans and pins, but know nothing of the services on that end.
If you think I'm wrong, you might be right.

Im heddin down to rock port tomarrow for a blast & cast. I know there are TONS of pintails there, but never seen more than 10cans down here on the coast. I think northern Texas has quite a few pintails and a few cans every once and a while...
