First limit of the season, and question

Postby Bayou_Bowhunter » Wed Jan 16, 2013 2:48 pm

Friend and I went out this morning and got 10 ducks and 1 snow Goose. If we'd decided to shoot scaup before 9am it would have easily been 2 more, not to say we didnt miss some greys and I missed a 30 yd shot on a Mottled duck! I was shooting slightly better than friend and got my 6 first, and waited out the geese. On shooting at a group of geese I had a weak load shoot out of my gun and the wad got jammed in the barrel!!! (Buddy shot our lone goose on that pass) I used a stick to get the wad out of the barrel, but upon looking at the amount of powder everywhere decided that was the end of my hunt.

So my question is, what do y'all keep in your blind bag in the event of a wad getting stuck in the barrel?

Have bird pics but don't know how to shrink the size of the file, I'll post if anyone can help me.

Resize the image in paint.

Also, I have a steel rod that splits into two. What type of shells were you shooting?

Nice shoot!
Like matt said good thing ya caught! I've never shot the ultra shok but I shoot the speed shok (blue box) and never had a problem. Maybe it was just a bad shell not sure. I also shoot the Kent fasteel.

I keep a metal gun cleaning rod in my truck as well

Kent Steel, Hevi Metal, and I have tried out the RIO steel this year. Honestly, I really like that RIO stuff and its only 9.99 a box. I bought a couple boxes because I love their dove loads.

I typically only shoot Kent Steel though. You can find a good deal on Rogers. I also bought a case of Hevi Metal this year for 219.99 with a $25 dollar rebate. Expensive I know, but I TRY not to compromise what I shoot (emphasis on try before I get called out for shooting rios, haha).

Cheap ***!!!! Lol...

I saw those the other day at Cabelas and wondered if they were any good. How are they compared to the Kents?

I don't know about Kent's, but I'll shoot the Rio's over the Remington and federal that cost five it ten dollars more.

I like RIO, it's really pretty good. I would still shoot Kent over it though.
