Anyone see any big ducks yet?

Postby tako1972 » Sun Oct 06, 2013 3:11 pm

Anyone on here see any big ducks yet, not counting resident honkers and wood ducks? I sure haven't. Waiting on my new speck dekes and I'm getting fired up to do some goose hunting this year. These pigs here are paying the price for it , ha.

Hey tako,

The middle weekend of teal season I saw a handful of pintails, spoonies, and a few specks down here near Beaumont. So you should be seeing something up there by now!!!!

What kind of decoys did you buy?

I got some friends west of you and also in Louisiana and they have not seen any geese, only the sprigs, teal, and shovelers you described. I bought some Blue collar Decoys( American Made) Speck dekes. I'm trying to really hit the geese hard this year, picked up more work just to make sure, lol. I'm psyched though. Glad you are seeing the big boys.

Beside our resident black/molted ducks and whistlers the last week of teal season I saw some high flying pintail and had three shovelers land in the decoys.

I love my BCDs!!!! I know the owner of that company and as a matter of fact I'm going to Idaho in December to hunt with them. I have all the fb ducks except mallards. He called me and told me to come over to the outdoor expo in Lafayette in June and he had the specks on display and they looked awesome!!!! We are taking a tour of the shop and warehouse when we go up there. I'll post pics don't worry!!!!

We didn't see a lot of specks. Only about 5 or so. Looked like a small family group. But we usually don't see them until a week or so before big duck season. Usually kill a few on opening day. The decoy so well. That's my favorite goose to hunt.

I haven't seen any big ducks here in central Texas yet. I'm just glad that we finally got some northern dove to finally show up.

Saw fair numbers of pintails, spooners, and even a few specks during teal season. I'm sure this front will have pushed more birds down...

Either way, they should be here come opener and I'll be ready!

Teal finally showed up in big numbers and have seen quite a few woodies but that's about it other than a couple small groups of geese flying high. I'll be good with a teal and wood duck shoot opening day though lol.

Seen some gadwalls yesterday while dove hunting south of town. Also some teal that were a no show all early season. The front seems to be doing it's magic on doves and ducks. Easy limit yesterday on doves in the south zone.

We started seeing a few pintails the last two weekends of teal season on the prairie.

This last front has brought more big ducks in addition to some much needed cooler weather!

Been seeing some woodies and teal as well Indian. Wouldn't mind that at all during big duck season.

Doubt the teal stick around for 3 more weeks though.

Saw a huge flock of some type of big duck flying down the ICW today. To far to tell what they were.

Went out rideing in the boat saturday. Saw lots of mottled ducks and TONS of teal still. Few gaddys and a few pintail flying with the teal but not many big ducks to get excited about. I cant wait for youth weekend! Found a pond on saturday that the birds were steadily pouring into with the boat parked in the middle of it. Nasty nasty mud in it though...since i cant hunt i get to be dog :fingerhead: They should all have an easy limit
