Okay...so maybe college athletes deserve an increase in housing and food expense stipend but I am not an Iowa Hawkeye fan at all and hope some maximum penalties get imposed.
Some real "sportsmen" up there, huh??
For the second time within the past year, a member of the Iowa wrestling team has been charged with illegal hunting in Iowa City.
Ethen Lofthouse, a two-time all-American who placed fifth at 184 pounds at the 2013 NCAA Championships, has been charged by Iowa City police for hunting out of season and discharging a bow within city limits.
The charges were filed over the weekend after police responded to a call at 36 Jema Court on the west side of Iowa City at 12:40 p.m. on Friday following a report of individuals were using a bow and arrow to shoot at a duck in ravine behind the property.
According to the police report, after speaking with neighbors police made contact with Lofthouse, who took them to a garage and showed them the dead mallard. During interviews with a roommate, Lofthouse told officers that he had killed the duck and showed them the bow he had used.
Lofthouse indicated that he was “an avid hunter’’ and that he planned to eat the duck.
A senior from Avon, Utah, Lofthouse posted a 22-9 record last season for the Hawkeyes.
His charge comes nearly a year after two Hawkeyes, Connor Ryan and Alex Meyer, were charged in November with discharging an air rifle and slingshots while hunting rabbits near the Hillcrest Dormitory where the pair lived on campus. They were cited for hunting after hours and Meyer was ticketed for hunting without a license.
