Moving to Beaumont Tx

Postby Wrenchdevil » Sun Nov 03, 2013 10:41 am

Hello to everyone. I'm being transferred to Beaumont area for my job and had a couple of questions.
First is there decent hunting around east Texas?
Second is it worth bringing my airboat?
Lastly if any one has an opinion on the area as far as good places to live and even places to avoid I would greatly appreciate any guidence.
Thank you in advance for the replies.
Kind regards
Jeremiah

Is the hunting good? Depends on what your idea of good is.

Should you bring your airboat? Yes, you will find that Texas has some great areas to run your airboat. I would never consider moving anywhere without mine. There are a bunch of hatters so be careful, and respectful...just wave as they shoot you the bird.

Awesome that's some good news. Any places to just ride an airboat or is it pretty much just for hunting? Any suggestions on decent towns to live in within an hour of port arthur?

What's your definition of decent? Wife grew up in Groves and her whole family lives there, nice community but no way I'd live there. Stay away from Port Arthur though.

I guess decent is relative. I will be working in port arthur so I'll need to be less than an hour from there. I'd like a few acres possibly with room for the old ladies horses. I guess a better question might be what areas to avoid. I've never been to that part of Texas so I really have no idea what to expect. Thanks for the replies I really appreciate it as I'm kinda flying blind here.

Avoid Port Arthur, parts of Port Acres is ok and has a few places with lots for horses....aunt lives there and has two horses. Nederland may have a few places and is a nice area. If you're looking for more open, try Winnie, Hamshire, or Fannet.

Personally... I'd buy acreage in Johnson Bayou, LA and commute the 20 minutes to Port Aurthur. It's a nice little country town and land isn't too expensive. Also, there is vast marsh in the immediate area (Sabine NWR) and it would put you 20 minutes from one of the greatest speckled trout fisheries in the nation (Lake Calcasieu)!!

I will only be working in port arthur. I have no problem driving up to an hour to work each way. So I'm looking at towns like vidor and silsby or something similar.

Didn't want to be the one to say that. Let's just say they have a decent size club and I believe the headquarters there with restricted membership.

Pretty much everything east of Houston sucks... Certain parts of Beaumont aren't bad, but I'd rather live in LA!!

Good ole country living! It's really more Texan then Coonass... Also have a buddy who owns thousands of acreage there who wouldn't mind you bringing your airboat to run his marsh!!! I can't get my ProDrive into it, but you could drive an airboat into it from his backyard...
