Thanks man. My buddies thought I was crazy for getting them out in the sleet and cold. They were happy I did after this was over lol.

Same here. All sleet in north Dallas. That stuff in the eye sucks, but it was worth it.

I could have shot a nice mixed bag today while sitting here drum fishing. There is a lot more birds down.

Nice. Our hunt wasn't picture worthy lol. We killed 16 this morning, but nothing very exciting. We decreased the spoonie pop a little bit today.

Duck Collector -

I've got a GD 1660 w/GD Blind and a GD 35HP SD. Did you get your Straps from John at Otis Leather Co?

I'm up in Cypress - "NW Houston". We've gotten into some great Birds as well. Good luck!!

We killed a couple that were almost to the point of mounting. That would have been pic worthy! To bad they still need a little more color

Picture Thread-Duck Season 2013-2014

Postby stumpjumper1590 » Sat Dec 07, 2013 8:58 pm

So compared to seasons past, how was everyone's first half? Having nothing to compare it to I can't say if it was better or worse as far as for the area. I heard of a lot of people complaining saying there wasn't as many birds since there is a lot of fresh water this year, but I wasn't complaining one bit.

A lot slower for me in this first split. Green usually slows about this time on into the break so I am hopeful. I would think most reports you would get from people all over would be that it was slower(the first half). Teal season was non existent for some. Weather was goofy, LCRA "adjusted" a lot of habitat for me(thanks!) so it's been tough. I hunted every day this week but today, Saturday and don't have nearly what I would at this time, variety or volume. I'm already catching myself passing on grey duck. We will see, I'd do it if I came home empty handed 9 out of 10 times I love it so much but full straps work also, ha.

My first hunt was Christmas Eve last year so I too have no comparison to make. I will say this though. This first split has been much better than last years second split. I have learned a ton and keep learning more. And even when I think I have the birds figured out, somehow they find a way to skunk me. I've been able to bag more birds this early season than I ever expected. If the second half is as good as the first, you won't hear me complaining.
